Sec 1 Maths Performance Task - Personal Reflection
(I) Role of Statistics in Real Life
Ans: To my understanding, statistics is a count or comparison of different types of the same things, for example, we could compare the difference in number between the number of people who take public transport to the number of people who take cars to work or school. It is the comparison or measurements always involving numbers, statistics are displayed in graphs, sometime with percentage, fractions, degrees or just the values themselves.
Statistics actually cover everything, around the world, population, food, housing, money and stocks are some.
In chapter 16, I learnt how to group statistics, that is by graphs, we practiced it by making graphs out of different sets of data. We were taught to group them into different types of graphs or charts for example, bar graphs, pie charts, histograms and line graphs.
Statistics are used in elections for example during polling day, the number of votes were compared between the groups and people participating in the election. People use statistics to compare the favorite stuff in Singapore and other countries too. They even use statistics to group between the different age groups.
I use graphs to record down my daily expenditure and I use graphs to group my money between different sections. I also use statistics to group the things I like, for example from my favorites to my most hated. When people pay bills, they also use graphs and charts. We even use statistics in daily life such as in school, during surveys, we may want to go around asking people what they like and other things, then we would want to group the data into a chart or graph to organize it more. Statistics is also used in national examinations for example the Primary School Leaving Examination, the Cambridge O Levels Examination and the Cambridge A Levels Examination. Statistics is applied there as only a certain percentage of people can get As, so they use a cumulative curve to determine the number of students who can get an A. For example, if the government only wanted 10% of the students in Singapore to get As, but 50% of all the students got As, the government will move the benchmark to get an A higher, so that less pupils will get As, meeting the 10% requirement.
Statistics are widely used in all newspapers, they use statistics for almost all articles. They may use statistics to report on how many seats the People’s Action Party won in the general election. They also use statistics to report how people have increasingly started using social networks like Facebook and Twitter. The graph shows that during 2009, 37% of people in the world were using Facebook and only 6% were using Twitter. Myspace has 24% of the world using it and for Bebo, 7%.
Sometimes, statistics are not always 100% true, if the government had a really bad situation like a major recession, and if he did not want the people to get too worried over this recession, they may twist the statistics to make the situation look better, hence the people will not worry as much.
(II) Learning Experience
Ans: I feel that my group works well together, as we each did our roles by analyzing our own individual data, we all contributed to being able to complete the performance task in time, we all also contributed to the way we gather our data. The format we gather it in. I hope that all of us will be able to score well for this performance task as it is 20% of our whole year, and we all contributed significantly.
Our group's strength was that we were all able to cooperate together and we had no arguments or fights, making it a lot easier for us to complete the performance task faster and to a better quality.
My roles were to merge the group's data together, and to also help design the poster.
I feel that we actually did not really face any challenges except for how to fit all the information into the poster as it was only A3 size.
I think that in future, it is still possible to improve, but I feel that our group was good enough for me and we were very cooperative.

I went around taking pictures of my neighborhood and realized that my neighborhood had many facilities and I decided I would explore the facilities more, there were many hawker centres nearby and there were supermarkets and even a really big mall nearby my home.

Post Orientation Reflection-Luke-John Lee Suen Keat
1. What were 3 of the highlights of the Orientation and the last 2 weeks?
Ans: The three highlights for me was that I completed my goal and reached the top of the rock wall. Another highlight was that I made new friends apart from primary school and I got to know them better and now I am able to communicate with them more easily. Another one was the time that our Peer Support Leaders sacrificed for us and I am very appreciative for their time as they made the camp fun for us.
2. What were 2 of the "low" moments of Orientation and the last 2 weeks
Ans: They were when we had to sit on the floor and while away our time with many eager students waiting for the activities to happen. Another one was that we had to clean up after the camp, but I think it was practical.
3. What are 2 of my greatest takeways/lessons from the Orientation and the last 2 weeks?
Ans: They were that we could use the values in the camp in daily school life, values like persistance. Another was giving, like the PSLs gave up their time to us, and giving makes others happy.
4. What did you learn about yourself in the last 2 weeks?
Ans: I learned that I can climb the rock wall quite fast.
5. What are you looking forward in 2011?
Ans: I am looking forward to having fun and interactive lessons in school with the new method of learning.

Communication-Homework
1. Why is communication important?
Ans: Communication is important because without communication, nothing would exist. People communicate to build buildings, to invent machinery.
2. What is/are your favourite forms of communication? Why?
Ans: I like to communicate through the internet, calls and sms if I am far from the person, if not I would rather just talk to the person. For calls it would be because I haven't seen a person for a long time, so I can call them to hear their voice, likewise talking. For sms, I like to sms sometimes because there would be certain deals like if you send a number of sms, you can get some sms for free. However, I still prefer communicating through the internet as it is a lot more affordable, and money doesn't grow on trees.
3. How do you decide which form of communication to use in a situation?
Ans: I would use the internet if there were a crisis for money, I would normally use an sms if I'm just telling somebody a few things and the conversation will not go on. If the message will be more than a few sms, I would call the person unless the call is a long one then I would go back to sms for the deals.
4. What difficulties do you face in communicating with others?
Ans: I face difficulties when I communicate with other people who scarcely speak English as I am more familiar with English.

Day 2: End-of-Day Reflection-Luke-john lee suen keat
1. What have you done today?
Ans: We had a tower building competition. We used straws, paper cups, rubber bands, paper clips and pipe cleaners. The challenge was to build the tallest tower that could hold the most marbles, but the requirements were that it had to be able to hold at least 10 marbles and had to be at least 30cm tall.
2.How have your grown from today's activities?
Ans: I have learnt that we have to co-operate with our team mates if we want to have a good end product. I have also made more friends.
3.How should you behave when doing group work?
Ans: We should behave when doing group work so that we will not distract other group members, in fact not only should we behave when doing group work, but we should also contribute by giving ideas or contributing in making the product.
4.Why are there differences of opinions?
Ans: Everybody has a different opinion so there would be many variations of opinions.
5.Why are you happy to be a member of your class?
Ans: I feel that in my class, I can make friends easily and yet I did not need to feel uncomfortable on the first day of school as I already know a few people who were from he same primary school as me.

Day 1 Mac Attack 1 - Activity 4: End-of-Day Reflection - Luke-john lee suen keat
1.What have I done today?
Ans: I have played the skittle game where we picked some skittles and had to name the number of facts about ourselves according to the number of skittles we picked. We played blow-wind-blow and OUCH!
2.What have I learnt today?
Ans: I have learnt that if we are greedy we will have to have more consequences and I learnt to have fun even with the people we have just met and are total strangers to me.
3.Why did I choose to come to SST?
Ans: I decided to go to go to SST because I find the new way of learning very intriguing and I think the hands on learning will suit me and will help me to do better.
4.What are my aspirations as a member of the SST family?
Ans: I hope that I will learn a lot of things and do well in O-levels and make SST proud!

My favourite activity during the holiday.
I enjoyed having my friends come over, and had alot of fun playing together. I feel that my friends' parents should let them go to other peoples' house to play and rest, it should be for their benefit.
my holiday
I went to stay at my parents' condo, on saturday, some of my church members came to have a BBQ, we ate lots of yummy food. My friends came and I was practically swimming the WHOLE day! My family and I planned to stay at the condo until tuesday. The next day, we went to church in the morning and went shopping for home accesories the whole day. The next day my friend came to stay over until the next day, we played nintendo wii and went swimming. The next day, we woke up really early in the morning and went to the gym. At about 3pm on tuesday, Matthias, his brother and their mum came to the condo and we went swimming and observed millipedes, then we went back to the condo and played wii for the rest of the day. The next day, my five year old cousin came to stay over at my home, together with my neighbour, we went to a snakes and ladders park to play, while playing, I lost my wallet and went searching for it for the rest of the day, but luck was not on my side and I did not find it.

I am thankful for...
I am thankful for being able to get education, I am thankful for loving parents who take care of me from the beginning, I am thankful for the educational toys that my parents buy for me, I am thankful that my parents start teaching me from very young so that I can be smarter, I am thankful for many friends that I have, I am thankful for the time I have to play with them, I am thankful for the group projects that the teachers assign for us so that we can learn to cooperate and I am thankful for the teachers that are there to give us education.

NE show
The NE show was really great and drenched experience for me, I liked the part about the terrorist, it was really exiting. I loved the feeling of natuaral rain pouring down on me.

the scary H1N1 flu
The h1n1 flu has been newly updated and there are over 500 cases. The h1n1 flu is very contages and is spreading rapidly, however, it is not very fatal and few have died from it, the school is doing its best to prevent it.
activities during the school holidays
I had many camps during the school holidays like a three day camp from church I had alot of fun with my friends from church. I also went for another three day camp organised by my tuition centre, during the camp, we went for activities like longkang fishing and uncle ringo carnival, in the uncle ringo carnival, we had activities like rolling in a ball like a hamster, accept that it is floating on water.
house chores
At home my sister and I help with the house chores so that my mum will not be too tired. I do light chores like mopping the floors or throwing rubbish, while my sister does the more heavy duties like vacuming the beds and washing the toilet.
